Royal St Georges Golf Trip 2014

Royal St Georges is a quality golf course that has challenged the best Golfers in the world over the years. The fact it's also the closest Open Championship venue to London on the Kent coast 90 miles away means it could be overrun with golfing enthusiasts. However, due to its exclusive membership and only permitting a small number of 4 ball greenfees only on a Tuesday it is always a treat to play. A select group of Royal Automobile Club members decided to brave the winter weather and tackle the the intimidating links. Blessed with near perfect conditions for the time of year we had some incredible scores returned, 3 on par or better with their handicap. Isidore Carivalis scored 36 points to take third spot, Gary Baker managed 37 points which would usually be enough for the win but Ian Richmond scored a remarkable 79 gross for 38 stableford points and claimed the prestigious Ziggy Trophy from St Andrews. Well played to all competitors, many thanks for taking part in a great day on the links. The Ziggy Trophy will be contested for again on March the 2nd 2015 at Valderrama in Spain.

Golf at Sotogrande, Spain 2015

Valderrama hosts the European Tour's Andalucia Masters and was where Seve captained the European Ryder Cup Team to victory in 1997, it is without doubt one of the most amazing golf courses in the world and has to be played to be believed. On the Sotogrande Estate there are several other great courses but right next door to Valderrama is La Reserva and Almenara, and the hotel offers everything you would expect from a 

top class golfing resort. As the south coast of Spain has an ideal climate for golf and is just over 2 hours away by plane from London this is a

fantastic place to play over the winter months.

Gleneagles 2014 Ryder Cup

Sometimes big sporting events can be hyped up only to become an anticlimax on the day. However, the 2014 Ryder Cup was every bit as good as billed. Exciting from start to finish. The atmosphere on the first tee is so different to a regular tournament, even a major. The noise of the fans cheering their side is deafening. At Gleneagles the European support was incredible, a few hardcore Americans were there putting on a brave show but they were ultimately out gunned in terms of numbers and enthusiasm. Both teams had very strong players on their side but the clear stars of the home team were Rory McIlroy, Henrik Stenson and Justin Rose. Jamie Donaldson put the final classy nail in the coffin of team USA but it was undoubtedly a team performance. A thoroughly gripping 3 days of golf with a great result for Team Europe! It was a privilege to be there.

Biarritz 2014

Biarritz has again delivered one of the best trips on our schedule, great golf with perfect weather and a good group of gents. The golf courses were looking immaculate as ever and the scores were superb, even on the beautiful but challenging Seignosse. There were 2 members who slowly pulled away from the pack with consistently high stableford scores and despite Jeremy Bard making an early move on the penultimate day with an unbelievable front nine of 22 points his back nine stalled just enough to allow Tim Barlow to see an opportunity and shoot an impressive 37 points to take the lead going into the last day. A final round of 32 points was enough to keep his lead and take the win, well done Tim Barlow, a well deserved winner of The Ziggy Trophy, formal presentation of the trophy will take place later this month at The Royal Automobile Club, Epsom. The Ziggy Trophy will again be contested for at Royal St Georges on December 2nd 2014. Best regards, Will.

Ireland Golf Trip 2014

There are few places as good as Ireland when it comes to golf trips. Great courses, fantastically friendly, awesome steaks and Guinness too! This year in a departure from the usual Cork trip we ventured to the West Coast and the beautiful County Kerry. Waterville House provided amazing luxury and the courses were just magical. This will definitely be on the list in the future. First class.

RAC members golf instruction week

Dear member, if you are keen to improve your golf there really is no better way than a week of intensive golf instruction in the sunshine of the South of France. Biarritz golf academy is one of the best facilities in Europe and a great town to visit. This instruction week is run by myself so there's not an uncomfortable 'getting to know your pro' stage. The Key to Better Golf!

Dear RAC member, this month we start our new strength and flexibility programme. This intensive golf lesson package runs together with Chris in Ceders Sports to identify and target the key physical moves in your swing that require attention. Through working together we improve your physical ability to make the changes needed to play better golf. The itinerary below is a sample of what to expect.

Week 1:

Initial Assessment (Gym) – 90 minutes

&

Golf Lesson Assessment 1 – (Driving Range) – 60 minutes

 Week 2:

Stretching session/set stretching programme – 30 minutes

 Week 3:

Golf Lesson 2

 Week 4:

Flexibility re-assessment & Core strength/stability/balance 1– 60 minutes

 Week 5/6:

Golf lesson 3

 Week 7/8:

Flexibility re-assessment & Core strength/stability/balance 2 – 60 minutes

‘Gym based’ strength & conditioning session (set programme) – 60 minutes

Week 10:

Final catch-up session/summary/coffee – 30 minutes (Free additional session)
