Golfing in Biarritz

Biarritz - A great place to golf

Day1 This 5 day trip starts with an early morning BA flight from London to Bordeaux. After a drive down the coast and an early check in at Le President Hotel in the centre of town, a quick change and we head to the Biarritz training ground for a light practise and 9 holes on the stunning course on the coast. Every hole has views of the French and Spanish coastline, the Atlantic as far as you can see and the Pyrenees for a back drop. After golf dinner is at Le Caritz restaurant, famous for seafood and cote de beuf with frites.
Day 2, After a classic french breakfast we head to the Biarritz training Academy, 2 hours practise we then have 18 holes at Makila Golf Club, a beautiful course and a real test. Dinner that evening is at Chez Albert, one of the best seafood restaurants in France, a big boast but actually true!
Day 3 Again 2 hours coaching at the Academy and then over to Seignosse Golf Club, a real test,  almost Augusta like this course is long with tree lined fairways and a few water hazards along the way. However it is always well maintained and one of the best golf courses in the area. Dinner that evening is 20minutes down the Autoroute into Spain for some tapas in San Sebastien.
Day 4 Again 2 hours coaching at the Academy but today we play at Biarritz Le Phare, dating back to 1888 Le Phare is one of the oldest golf courses in France and has hosted the Ladies European Tour French Open, it's always in beautiful condition and a joy to play. Dinner that evening is at Le Baleak, a local basque restaurant that is getting a name for producing fantastic dishes all from locally sourced ingredients.
Post training drinks in the shade
Day 5 Again 2 hours coaching at the Academy but today we play at Arcangues, a beautiful course built on the Duke of Arcangues' land, the course has some great views from the top of the hill and the back nine that plays around the Dukes' Chateaux. After an early meal on the terrace the group heads to the airport for the 9pm flight back to London.

Valderrama Trip

Will Murray Golf returns from a great week in Spain. This was always going to be a real treat, 4 days golfing in the sun playing Valderrama, La Reserva and Almenara. The format for the week was coaching every morning followed by 18 holes on a top class golf course. Each evening the group went out for dinner, the first night we found a restaurant by the boats in Soto Grande Marina, then following nights at El Goucho for a steak and Trasmallo for Seafood.
The prize up for grabs for our RAC members was The Ziggy Trophy where our group took on the challenge of quick greens and long tree lined fairways, a true test and one the best golfers in the world from the US and European Tours battled over for The Ryder Cup in 1997 and also every year in The European Tour's Andalucian Masters. In the end it was Cherine Chalaby who came out victorious over John Galt by only a few points, Malcolm Dalgleish finished a creditable third. But for a broken (accidentally, not over the knee!) driver Kym Edwards might have pushed for the top spot. Tim Barlow's impressive first day score was tough to repeat but he held his nerve and he scored enough to secure him a finish in the top 5.

This fantastic RAC trip will be an annual fixture, thanks to all who took part. Best regards, Will Murray.
