The Art of Good Putting
The best putters have their eyes over the ball, a fairly wide stance, grip the putter with the lightest amount of pressure possible and rock the shoulders back and through. The idea is to get the putter to swing up and down the ball to target line which although sounds obvious is actually where most people go wrong as they will take the putter round in an arc and then use the hands to roll the face back on line, a common reason for lack of distance control as well as poor direction.
Drill Number 1 - On the practise green, put 2 clubs on the ground (see video) parallel to each other, a putter head's width apart and pointing at the hole. Try and make the smoothest stroke you can whilst keeping the putter running up and down between the line of the clubs.
Drill Number 2 - At home try practising your putting stroke in the hallway. With your head against the wall and a hard back book between your knees try to make a smooth stroke with the toe of the putter against the skirting board. It is surprisingly difficult to keep your head and legs motionless and still keep the putter running straight along the wall, but with patience and practise the stroke will improve. Another very simple drill but one of the best. Enjoy, Will.

Mr Cherine Chalaby - 2009 Winner of 'The Ziggy Trophy'

A small presentation was made today at The RAC, in his speech Mr Chalaby thanked Mr Isidore Carivalis for kindly donating the trophy, he also thanked Mrs Chalaby for letting him play so much golf! Praise also goes to Mr Kym Edwards for making 2009 a very close competition, Cherine pipped him at the post by the narrowest of margins. Many thanks to all who played this year, looking forward to 2010.

St Andrews - The Home of Golf
This is a 'must do' for all golfers, visit the home of golf and play where it all started in 1400AD.
Day1 This 4 day trip starts with an early morning BA flight from London to Edinburgh. There you will be collected in style by St Andrews Executive Travel, specialists in luxury tranfers, where you will be taken to The Old Course Resort and Spa. This is without doubt one of the best hotels in the country and is first class from start to finish. After check in we meet in The Jigger Inn which has been providing local food and beverages since the 1850s. After a light lunch we have 18 holes on St Andrews New Course, a great course and some say even better than The Old Course. Dinner that evening is at the award winning St Andrews Seafood Restaurant.
Day 2, after a large breakfast in true Scottish style we have 18 holes at Carnoustie, Open venue in 1999 and 2007, a beautiful course and a real test, easy to see why even the top pros struggle. Dinner that evening is at Ziggy Steakhouse, great food and lots of it, the perfect tonic to a tough day of golf.
Day 3 is on The Old Course itself, a genuine life experience and the first tee shot always turns even the steeliest of nerved golfer into a nervous wreck. With a quick stop for a photo of the group on The Swilken Bridge everyone ends the day with a huge smile and some very happy memories. Dinner that evening is at The Locker Room restaurant, with it's history and excellent food and service this is always a real favourite.
Day 4 starts with an early tee time at Kingsbarns, a real gem of a course and for many the highlite of the week. After a late lunch St Andrews Executive Travel take the group back to Edinburgh airport for the return fight to London.
A great trip and highly recommended to all golfers, this is available from April to October, every week other than when The Open and The Alfred Dunhill Links Tournaments are on.

14th May 2009 - Will Murray Golf group returns from a great week at the home of Golf The weather forecast for the week ahead didn't look good but amazingly we were blessed with a whole week of blue sky and exceptionally warm sunshine with only a gentle breeze, very rare!Day 1 Starting with a round on The Old Course was an absolute joy and a taster of what lay ahead. Standing on the first tee at the home of golf provided goose bumps all round to add to the usual first tee nerves, but the blue sky above the immaculately kept links combined with the professionalism of the experienced caddies meant everyone in the party had a great time.Day 2 Saw us on Carnoustie, without the wind and rain it was at its most vulnerable, there for the taking and a joy to play in such perfect conditions.Day 3 A great new addition to the week is Gleneagles, venue for The Ryder Cup in 2014, a tough test of golf in a truely stunning part of Scotland, first class all the way.Day 4 Kingsbarns on the final day was a delight, always the most professional and warmest of welcomes and often the highlite of the week for most. From start to finish this week will be a tough one to match, but we'll be back in April 2010 to try and better it!

RAC Members Day at Royal St Georges
December 2nd 2008
A one day trip to The Open Championship venue of Royal St Georges always promised to be a great day but it surpassed everyone's expectations. An early start meant we were there in time for coffee and some bacon rolls. Walking to the first tee there wasn't a cloud in the sky and the golf course looked just perfect as always. The day ended in true Royal St Georges style, jacket and tie in the dinning room and full carvery with all the trimminigs! First class from start to finish, hopefully we can make this an annual event!
